Updated Effort Reporting Resources Now Available
The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) has expanded its effort reporting resources, including new guidance on effort commitments and a calculator that converts percent effort to calendar months and back. Access the UNCG Effort Calculator and Guidance on the OSP website.
Help Us Keep Approval Workflows Current
OSP asks departments to notify our office of any new department head appointments or leadership changes. Timely updates keep Institutional Proposal Form (IPF) approver assignments accurate in Cayuse and prevent delays in proposal routing.
| FEDERAL POLICY WATCH Proposed Revisions to the Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) OMB has proposed significant revisions to the government-wide regulations governing federal grants and cooperative agreements, touching cost principles, subrecipient oversight, research security, and award termination authority, among other areas. The public comment period closed July 13, 2026, and OMB is now reviewing feedback. If finalized as proposed, changes would take effect October 1, 2026. Institutions receiving federal funding should monitor developments closely. (Reference: OMB Proposed Rule, published May 29, 2026.) |
New Data Management and Sharing Plan Formats for NIH and NSF
Both agencies overhauled their data management and sharing plan (DMSP) requirements this spring, and many investigators are only now encountering the changes as they prepare new applications.
- NSF: As of April 2026, DMSPs are completed directly in Research.gov through an interactive web form built into the proposal workspace, replacing the uploaded PDF format.
- NIH: For applications due on or after May 25, 2026, NIH has moved to a structured format with standardized fields and yes/no responses, replacing the traditional narrative approach.
Prior DMSPs should not be reused as-is under the new formats. Faculty are encouraged to begin DMSP planning early and work with OSP on data category, repository, and access-timeline decisions.
