Field Research Manual Now Available
A comprehensive Field Research Manual is now available to support safe, compliant off-campus research. Faculty, staff, and students conducting field research are responsible for:
- Developing and completing a Field Research Plan before initiating activities
- Submitting a proposal in Cayuse SP, including all applicable compliance questions and supporting documentation (Scope of Work and Field Research Plan)
- Evaluating risks associated with off-site travel and field participation
- Completing and documenting required training before activities begin
- Reviewing emergency procedures in the approved Field Research Plan
- Reporting injuries, incidents, or accidents to Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) promptly
- Reporting unsafe conditions or equipment issues to the PI or appropriate supervisor
- Obtaining approval from all applicable oversight committees (IRB, IACUC, IBC, or others) before beginning research
- Using appropriate PPE and safety equipment per risk assessments and approved protocols
- Complying with international travel, export control, and research security requirements for research conducted abroad
