Research Development Services Request
The Research Development team provides proposal development support to faculty pursuing external funding opportunities. Our goal is to help faculty identify funding opportunities, organize proposal development activities, strengthen proposal materials, and navigate complex or collaborative funding efforts.
Faculty seeking Research Development support should complete the Research Development Support Request Form. The information provided through the form helps our team understand the nature of the request, the type of assistance needed, relevant sponsor deadlines, requested completion dates, and any coordination already underway within the faculty member’s department or college.
We encourage faculty to submit requests as early as possible so that sufficient time is available for review, coordination, and support.
Which Research Development Service Should I Select?
When completing the request form, select the service that best reflects the primary type of assistance you need. If your request involves several activities, choose the service that most closely represents your main need and provide additional information in the Request Summary field.
Finding Funding
Select Finding Funding if you need assistance identifying external funding opportunities that align with your research, scholarship, program, or project.
Support may include targeted funding searches, identification of potential sponsors, review of available opportunities, and discussion of potential funding strategies.
Choose this service if your main question is:
“Where can I find funding for this idea?”
Document Request
Select Document Request when you need assistance locating, developing, coordinating, or reviewing a specific proposal-related document or piece of institutional information.
Examples may include proposal templates, standard institutional information, supporting materials, or other documents needed during proposal development.
Choose this service if your main need is:
“I need a particular document or piece of proposal information.”
Project Management Consultation
Select Project Management Consultation when you need assistance organizing or managing the proposal development process.
Support may include developing proposal timelines, identifying milestones, coordinating responsibilities, organizing proposal components, tracking deliverables, or establishing a manageable workflow for the proposal team.
This service may be particularly useful for collaborative, interdisciplinary, multi-investigator, or otherwise complex proposals.
Choose this service if your main need is:
“I need help organizing and managing the proposal development process.”
General Proposal Flow Review and Feedback
Select General Proposal Flow Review and Feedback when you have developed a proposal or substantial portions of a proposal and would like broader developmental feedback.
Review may focus on areas such as overall organization, clarity, responsiveness to the funding opportunity, alignment between proposal sections, and the overall flow of the narrative.
This service is intended to provide developmental proposal feedback and does not replace technical or scientific peer review, detailed copyediting, or sponsor-required administrative review.
Choose this service if your main question is:
“Can someone review my proposal and provide feedback on the overall narrative, structure, and flow?”
Institutional Grant
Select Institutional Grant for larger or institutionally significant funding opportunities that may require substantial coordination across departments, colleges, administrative units, leadership, or external partners.
These requests may involve complex proposal planning, multiple contributors, institutional commitments, cross-unit coordination, or other requirements beyond a typical individual proposal.
Choose this service if your main need is:
“This is a large or institutionally coordinated proposal that requires broader development support.”
Not Sure Which Service to Select?
That’s okay.
Select the service that appears to be the closest match and use the Request Summary section of the form to describe what you are trying to accomplish and the type of assistance you believe would be most helpful.
The Research Development team will review the request and may follow up if additional information is needed or if another type of support is more appropriate.
Before You Submit
Faculty should provide as much lead time as possible when requesting Research Development assistance.
Submission of a request does not automatically guarantee that support can be provided. The ability to accommodate a request may depend on factors such as:
- the scope and complexity of the request;
- current Research Development workload and active requests;
- the amount of time available before the requested completion date or sponsor deadline;
- the availability of required proposal materials or information; and
- the level of coordination required across departments, colleges, institutional offices, or external partners.
Submitting requests early provides the greatest opportunity for meaningful Research Development support.
Coordination With Research Administration
Research Development support is intended to complement existing departmental, college, and central research administration processes. Faculty should continue to work with the appropriate research administrator and other institutional offices for activities such as proposal budgets, institutional approvals, compliance requirements, sponsor forms, award-related administrative requirements, and formal proposal submission when applicable. Research Development assistance does not replace required institutional review, approval, or submission processes.
What Happens After I Submit a Request?
- Submit Your Request
- Complete the Research Development Services Request Form and provide information about your project or proposal, requested service, sponsor or funding opportunity, relevant deadlines, and departmental or college coordination.
- Providing complete information helps the Research Development team evaluate the request and determine the appropriate next steps.
- Research Development Review
- The Research Development team reviews the request to better understand the scope of assistance needed and determine whether the request can be accommodated based on the nature of the request, available capacity, and applicable deadlines.
- Additional information may be requested before a decision is made.
- Request Confirmation and Queue Assignment
- If the request is accepted, the faculty member will receive a confirmation email that includes a unique Request ID and queue position.
- The queue helps the Research Development team organize active requests, manage workload, and provide greater visibility into the request process.
- A queue position indicates that the request has been accepted into the Research Development workflow. It does not necessarily represent an exact start date or completion date.
- Research Development Follow-Up
- A member of the Research Development team will follow up as the request progresses.
- Depending on the service requested, follow-up may include scheduling a consultation, requesting additional information or materials, providing funding opportunities or resources, coordinating proposal activities, or beginning review of submitted materials.
